The RAM TRX Is Back for 2027 — and It Makes 777 Horsepower
RAM killed the TRX in 2024. Then they brought back the Hemi. Then the SRT badge. Then Tim Kuniskis walked out of retirement. And on New Year's Day 2026, the rumor everyone in the truck world had been trading for a year stopped being a rumor: the 2027 RAM 1500 SRT TRX is real, it's official, and it makes 777 horsepower.
If you've been waiting, the wait is almost over. Here's the whole story on the new RAM TRX — what happened, what's new, what it costs, and how it stacks up against the Ford Raptor R.
A death, and a very
loud resurrection
The original RAM TRX showed up in 2021 and immediately rewrote the rules for what a factory truck could be: a 702-horsepower supercharged Hellcat V8 stuffed into a full-size pickup, riding on 35-inch tires, built to fly across the desert at triple-digit speeds. It was ridiculous in the best way.
Then it was gone. Emissions targets, an industry-wide pivot toward electrification, and a thinning Hemi lineup all conspired to retire the TRX after the 2024 model year. For a while it looked like the apex predator had gone extinct.
A few things changed that. The Hemi V8 came back to the RAM 1500 lineup for 2026. Regulations loosened. EV demand cooled and gas-powered performance came back into fashion. RAM resurrected its SRT performance division — and the very first vehicle out of that reborn division is, fittingly, the TRX. Even Tim Kuniskis, the executive most associated with RAM's wildest creations, came out of retirement to help steer the brand. When the company announced the comeback in a short film, he was the one hosting it.
It was, as more than one outlet put it, the worst-kept secret in the car business. That didn't make the confirmation any less satisfying.

2027 RAM TRX specs: what's actually new
The headline number is 777 horsepower — a 75-hp jump over the old truck's 702. Torque climbs to 680 lb-ft, up from 650. The engine is still a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, still backed by an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case.
The performance claims match the swagger:
- 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds — a full second quicker than RAM claimed for the outgoing model
- 118 mph top speed
- 35-inch off-road tires on new 18-inch wheels
- Second-generation Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shocks, with up to 13 inches of travel up front and 14 inches out back
There's a Baja Mode that shoves 75 percent of available torque to the rear wheels when you want the tail to step out, and the cabin has gone full luxury-bunker: a 14.5-inch touchscreen, heated-cooled-and-massaging front seats, and a head-up display. RAM is also launching a Bloodshot Night Edition — a blacked-out look with a flame-red hood stripe and matching accents — as the truck's debut trim.
Look closely at the badges, too. The SRT logo is back on the fender, and the T-Rex emblem returns. Small details, but they're the ones enthusiasts have been waiting to see again.
2027 RAM TRX vs Ford Raptor R: why it matters
For most of the last few years, the high-performance off-road truck conversation had one name in it: the Ford F-150 Raptor R. With the TRX gone and GM sitting this fight out entirely, Ford had the throne to itself.
That's over. At 777 hp and 680 lb-ft, the new TRX clears the Raptor R by 57 horsepower and 40 lb-ft, which puts it back on top as the most powerful production gas half-ton pickup you can buy. The rivalry that made this whole segment fun is alive again — and right now there's no third truck even in the room.
2027 RAM TRX price and release date
The 2027 RAM 1500 SRT TRX arrives in the second half of 2026, with a starting MSRP of $99,995 plus a $2,595 destination charge (about $102,590 out the door before options). So this is a "start saving and get on the waitlist" situation, not a "drive one home this weekend" one.
That's actually good news if you're the type who likes to plan a build before the truck even lands. The TRX's whole personality is built around going fast where there's no pavement — which means the first thing most owners reach for is the ability to see out there. Desert running at night, trail work after sundown, predawn launches to the trailhead: a factory truck this capable deserves lighting that keeps up with it.
